Lago Chungará, a natural mirror
In the far north of Chile, you will find a mirror in the heights that has inspired multiple ancestral tales. Lago Chungará is one of the lakes with the highest altitude in the world, located at 4,500 MASL and surrounded by snowy peaks that will leave your jaw on the floor.
It is next to the famous Cotacotani lagoons and inhabited by animals such as guanacos, llamas, and vicunas.
How to get there: Lago Chungará is inside Lauca National Park, in the district of Putre, while the closest urban city is Arica, 190 km away.
Mable Chapels and their turquoise waters
The Mable Chapels (Capillas de Mármol) are cave and cavern formations sculpted by water and air erosion throughout thousands of years. Their changing tones and shapes, in addition to the turquoise color of Lago General Carrera, allow for a visual spectacle that you need to see at least once in your life.
How to get there: From Coyhaique, in the Aysén Region, you have to travel south along the Carretera Austral until you reach Puerto Río Tranquilo. You can then go on a boat tour that will take you to these wonderful formations.
Prettiest sights in the south
In the La Araucanía Region, amidst a lush forest made of araucaria, oak, coihue, and lenga trees, you will find Piedra del Águila. This is a lookout point in the rocks that offers a mind- blowing 360° view, where you can see the Pacific Ocean, the Andes Mountains, and different volcanos towards the north and the south. It is the perfect place to admire the geographical richness of Chile at its peak.
How to get there: Piedra del Águila is located inside Nahuelbuta National Park, a two-hour drive away from the city of Angol.
Sunset at Valle de la Luna
In the heart of the Atacama Desert, the driest in the world, you will find this valley of dunes, rocks, sand, and salt hills whose immensity will make you think you are in space. The changing colors of the sky at sunset create a magical experience.
How to get there: Valle de la Luna is 13 km west of San Pedro de Atacama, in the Antofagasta Region. You can get there by vehicle or rent a bicycle to enjoy this wonderful experience.
